Breast Surgery
Breast Surgery
Breast-conserving surgery, sentinel lymph node biopsy and mastectomy options, balancing oncological adequacy with the aesthetic result.
Breast Surgery in Tekirdağ
The aim in breast cancer treatment is to clear the disease completely while preserving the patient's bodily integrity and quality of life. For a substantial proportion of suitable patients, treatment today is possible without removing the whole breast.
Surgical Options
- Breast-conserving surgery — the tumour and a margin of healthy tissue are removed and the breast is preserved; treatment is completed with postoperative radiotherapy
- Sentinel lymph node biopsy — if the sentinel node is clear, the remaining axillary lymph nodes are left untouched, markedly reducing the risk of arm swelling
- Mastectomy — simple, modified radical and skin-sparing techniques, planned to allow reconstruction
What Determines the Order of Treatment?
Surgery does not come first for every patient with breast cancer. The biological subtype of the tumour, its size and the status of the lymph nodes are assessed, and some patients receive chemotherapy first; this may shrink the tumour and improve the chance of breast-conserving surgery. The decision is made by the multidisciplinary tumour board.
